Brooke grew up just outside of Philadelphia, PA. Currently, she lives in the Washington, DC area with her husband, sister-in-law, and adorable nephew.
Brooke’s superpower is taking complicated topics and making them easy to understand – from providing community-based public health education and explaining controversial federal policy actions, to teaching someone how to book a flight as a wheelchair user.
Brooke has spent over 20 years as a public servant, most recently serving as the Communications Director of a $100 Billion federal agency.
In 2022, Brooke started a travel planning and media company with her husband, called Imaginary Lemons. The name came a conversation with a colleague several years prior, about a seemingly-impossible campaign assignment. When he encouraged her to “make lemonade out of lemons,” she responded that the assignment – which was completely void of newsworthiness – was based on “imaginary lemons.”
Years later, as Brooke and her husband, Aadam, were thinking of a name for their new business focused on helping people with disabilities find creative solutions to solving problems – with a special emphasis on travel, they wanted a name that conveyed the feeling of overwhelm that comes with feeling like you have no resources available to help. It’s like you need to make lemonade, but life forgot to give you the lemons. On the Imaginary Lemons YouTube channel, they talk about how to make lemonade anyway.
Following on the YouTube channel, Brooke began working as a travel advisor and certified accessible travel specialist, helping families of all types and abilities plan vacations that make sure everyone is included.
